New Bed & Breakfast in Philleigh

This month saw the opening of a new Bed & Breakfast venture in the ever popular village of Philleigh. The owners of  Gwel An Vala are John & Meryl Winterflood who have spent the last year completely updating and refurbishing this large detached bungalow so that it now provides three fabulous en-suite letting rooms aimed at couples looking to spend a quiet relaxing holiday here on The Roseland.

Fundraising for 'Help The Heroe's

The event will be centred at the St Mawes Social Club. There will be a meal and other events on the Saturday night. The swim will start on Summers beach and end at the slipway beside The Idle Rocks Hotel, the transition area will be in the main car park. The cycle ride will be out to Philleigh and back. The run will be around the island. All events will provide great viewing for those wishing to watch rather than participate.

Falmouth Oyster Festival

October sees the celebration of Cornish seafood and the start of the oyster dredging season with the very popular Falmouth Oyster Festival. Now in its 18th year the festival host many cooking demonstration by top chefs along with live music and of course lots of free samples!

Portscatho Regatta

A traditional regatta with a full programme of sailing over an exciting and highly visible course in beautiful Gerrans Bay and featuring a passage race from the Fal, plus various water-sports (swimming, canoeing, raft-racing), together with shore-based fun activities such as sandcastle-building and races for all ages on Tatam’s Beach. 

Falmouth Classics

Headed by the Falmouth All Weather and Inshore Lifeboats, and heralded with a flypast by the Search & Rescue Helicopter from RNAS Culdrose, the Falmouth Classics Parade of Sail & Power was the high point of a great weekend which brought together traditional yachts and working boats from this country and abroad.

Revamped website launched

Stmawes.info has had a good going over by Sticky Web to bring the site up to date and there's a few new features that have been implemented. The most noticeable being that its now tied in with Facebook & Twitter to help keep visitors and residents up to date on news and events. Sticky Web say the back of the website has changed significantly allowing for the development of several new exciting features that are currently in the pipeline.

St just in Roseland Church needs your help! St. Just-in-Roseland Church has nestled alongside St. Just Pool on the edge of the River Fal since it was built at the turn of the 13th Century.   Every year, thousands of people from all over the world come to visit this enchanting church in its idyllic location.   Its tranquillity and beautiful gardens have been an inspiration for many.  
 

Nearwater B&B open for business!

The new bed and breakfast in St Mawes is now open for business. Tim & Ami Whittaker have extended and completely rebuilt an existing house along Polvarth Road and transformed it into a very upmarket B&B with three ensuite rooms and a separate self catering annexe. There's also the opportunity to go sailing with the host's in their Cornish Shrimper – Puffin.

St Mawes and St Just in Roseland Society: Open meeting

St Mawes and St Just in Roseland Society: Open meeting on 16 November 2009 at 7pm in Memorial Hall, St Mawes. Admission is free. A local author will read extracts from his book, based on a log of day to day life on board the tall ships as recorded by an able seaman over 70 years ago. During the four month, 12,000 mile voyages between Australia and Falmouth the seaman used a Box Brownie camera to take photographs of life onboard.

St Mawes and St Just in Roseland Society: Open meeting on 20 April 2009 at 7pm in Memorial Hall, St Mawes. Admission is free and there will be refreshments.

Senior members of the Co-operative Group management will give an illustrated talk entitled "The Co-operative, how we got here and where we are going". They will also explain their plans for the St Mawes store and will answer questions.

Percuil Regatta
